Acceptable Use Policy and Contract

BuckNET ACCOUNT HOLDERS

A BuckNET account is a privilege offered each academic year to the following:

  1. All students of the Freer Independent School District, Kinder through twelfth grade, and their parent(s) or guardian(s).

  2. All educators who are working with Freer Independent School District students, including classroom teachers, support personnel, administrators, tutors, specialists and mentors.

  3. Educators and students from other educational institutions who are working in partnership with Freer Independent School District for specific purposes over a limited period of time.

BuckNET ACCESS

F.I.S.D. provides internet access through designated computers and labs located on each campus.  All secondary students (6th - 12th) and all employees of F. I.S.D. are issued user names for the sole purpose of logging onto BuckNET.

BuckNET CODE OF CONDUCT

The BuckNET account holder is held responsible for his/her actions and activity.  Unacceptable uses of the network will result in the suspension or revoking of these privileges.  Some examples of such unacceptable uses are:

  1. Using the network for any illegal activity, including violation of copyright or other contracts.

  2. Using the network for financial or commercial gain.

  3. Degrading or disrupting equipment or system performance.

  4. Vandalizing the data of another user or wastefully using finite resources.

  5. Downloading any files without the consent of the classroom teacher.

  6. Gaining unauthorized access to resources or entities.

  7. Invading the privacy of individuals.

  8. Using an account owned by another user.

  9. Posting personal communications without the author's consent.

  10. Posting anonymous messages or chatting.

BuckNET CONSENT AND WAIVER

By signing the Consent and Waiver form, the requester and his/her parent(s) or guardian(s) (if the requester is a student) and all employees of F.I.S.D. agree to abide by these restrictions.  The student and his/her parent(s) or guardian(s) should discuss these rights and responsibilities together.

Furthermore, the requester and his/her parent(s) or guardian(s) and all employees of F.I.S.D. are warned that Freer I.S.D. does not have control of the information on the Internet. Some sites accessible via the Internet may contain material that is illegal, defamatory, inaccurate or potentially offensive to some people. Although a filtering device is in place, Freer I.S.D. will not be held responsible for inappropriate information that is accessible beyond those constraints. While the district’s intent is to make Internet access available to further its students' educational goals and objectives, account holders will have the ability to access other materials as well.

Freer I.S.D. believes that the benefits to educators and students from access to the Internet, in the form of information resources and opportunities for collaboration, far exceed any disadvantages of access.  But ultimately, parent(s) and guardian(s) of minors are responsible for setting and conveying the standards their child or ward should follow.  To that end, Freer I.S.D. supports and respects each family's right to decide whether or not to apply for BuckNET access.

The account holder and, if a minor, his/her parent(s) or guardian(s) must understand that BuckNET is a district-wide network system whose capabilities are expanding each year to support Freer I.S.D.'s educational responsibilities and missions.  The specific conditions and services being offered will change from time to time.  In addition, an account holder uses BuckNET at his/her own risk. BuckNET makes no warranties with respect to BuckNET service, and it specifically assumes no responsibilities for the following:

  1. The content of any advice or information received by an account holder from a source outside Freer I.S.D., or any costs or charges incurred as a result of seeing or accepting such advice.

  2. Any costs, liability or damages caused by the way the account holder chooses to use his/her BuckNET access.

  3. Any consequences of service interruptions or changes even if these disruptions arise from circumstances under the control of Freer I.S.D.

  4. While BuckNET supports the privacy of electronic mail, account users must assume that this cannot be guaranteed.  Only school issued e-mail accounts are allowed.  Any inappropriate material being sent through electronic mail is prohibited.  The school district reserves the right to monitor any email sent through a school issued account

  5. Inappropriate materials or language are not permitted.  These include, but are not limited to the following:  profane, abusive, or impolite language, and access to pornographic or "adult" websites.  Profane, abusive or impolite language should not be used to communicate nor should materials be accessed which are not in line with F.I.S.D. rules.  Should students encounter such material by accident, they should immediately report it to the teacher.
